It was the dishwasher. Fortunately, I caught it before it exploded, spewing dishes and silverware all over the house. Someone (of the two-year-old variety) thought they would be helpful and push some buttons to start it but did not quite complete the process. It was beeping to indicate that the process needed to be completed.

there's a bomb in our house
While making dinner with Zach this evening, we kept hearing an intermittent beeping noise. At first I ignored it, thinking that it would go away. After a bit, it started to really irritate me, so an investigation ensued. The stove? No. The oven? No. The timer? No. I went about my business, trying to think of what could be making such a noise. When it bothered Zach into a frenzy (he is very sensitive to sounds), I continued my search. The microwave? No. The rice cooker? No. I kept standing in different spots around the kitchen to determine where it was louder and where it was softer. Could it be the refrigerator? Possible, I suppose, but I have never known a fridge to make a beeping noise. We checked into it with negative results. The air conditioner? No. The power plant that I just set up today? No. When I had checked everything in the kitchen, I started over. The stove? No. The oven? No. And still not the timer. I'm sure, because I pushed every button on the contraption, and the noise continues. What could it possibly be? With all options exhausted, I am forced to conclude the only possible alternative conclusion-it's a bomb. After I finish my dinner, I will not rest until I have scoured the entire kitchen for the bomb with its incessant beeping.
