good news and bad news

Good news: Zach had a nap today.
Bad news: It's now 11:15, and he's still awake with no end in sight. I, however, am nearly comatose.

Good news: Zach performed surprisingly well at the dentist today for his first visit.
Bad news: He has cavities, and we neglected to add him to the dental insurance.

Good news: We had some yummy pizza for dinner.
Bad news: The Chinese restaurant we wanted to order from was closed for the Jewish sabbath.

Good news: While in the city today, I bought Italian ices for a yummy treat.
Bad news: I only got three, and Zach woke up just in time to get mine after only two or three bites from me.

Good news: Sarah went to work with David today.
Bad news: Now she and I are both going to want her to go to work with him every day, and this is likely not going to happen.

Good news: Zach often likes to go and play outside riding around on his scooter.
Bad news: This means I have to go out and play his wildly creative variation of MarioKart scooter with him. The game involves driving around on scooters (the little kid sized ones, mind you) like crazy people, pretending to throw out banana peels and koopa troopas to sabotage the other person, zooming super fast when we get a bullet, and watching out for bombs. All of this while crashing into one another to get pretend balloons. I usually get to be the red team and ride the princess scooter while he is the blue team and rides the Radio Flyer scooter. The neighbors must think we are crazy.

Good news: Zach can now reach the light switches and turn on the lights.
Bad news: Zach can now reach the light switches and turn on the lights. He usually likes to practice his newly minted skill at bedtime.

Good news: Sarah is a social butterfly and loves parties.
Bad news: She plans about three parties a week, and I have to veto most of them.

Good news: Zach likes to crash down to the floor in a very dramatic manner to get his point across. It is really quite endearing.
Bad news: Often this behavior takes place in public places where the floors are not exactly clean. It completely grosses me out.

Good news: The nights are so nice and mild I can sleep with the windows open and enjoy the cool breezes.
Bad news: The birds are so blasted loud they wake me up every single morning during the four o'clock hour.

Good news: Summer is here, and school is out.
Bad news: Sarah has a nice little summer cold with a cough that wakes me up every single night to give her a follow-up dose of cough medicine.

Good news: I recently became reacquainted with the fantastic word hootenanny.
Bad news: I now find myself trying to work it into every day conversations which is completely absurd.

Good news: I am giving the Relief Society lesson on Sunday.
Bad news: I have nothing prepared with no inspiration on the horizon.

Good news: Sarah has been playing up a storm with different toys (even ones she hasn't played with in ages) all over the house and has been engaging in much less screen time than I expected given the fact that it is summer with no school.
Bad news: Barbie and company have taken over the living room. The Polly Pocket gang are entrenched in the downstairs bathroom. I haven't seen the top of the dining room table for days as it is covered in books and papers and writing implements. The Playmobil toys have taken up residence in the extra bedroom.
