baby boy vawdrey

And it's a boy. Baby boy was born late last night at 10:46 pm after about five hours of labor. I didn't even realize it was actual labor until about 7:00 when I thought that the contractions I was having were starting to get awfully close together (about 3-4 minutes). When I mentioned to David that I was having some contractions and started to pack a bag for the hospital, he decided it would be a good time to put the crib together. It was an eventful project with Zach, Sarah, David, and my sister, Breann, all working together to build the crib while I grimaced and contorted on the bed. We finally arrived at the hospital about 8:15 where I was triaged and allowed to stay as I was, after all, the induction scheduled for the next morning anyway. They phoned my doctor who was just sitting down to dinner in the city. I got a room where two weeks before Victor Cruz of NY Giants fame and his wife had a baby girl. David was thrilled and decided Victor would be a great name if it were a boy. I was less enamored of the name Victor and had to ask who Victor Cruz was. I was ready for an epidural around 9:30 and was thrilled when it started to take effect. Meanwhile, David and the nurse discussed all things medical informatics including the wonderful system (Epic) that the hospital uses. My doctor arrived about 10:20, and it was go time. The whole room was all a scramble to get things ready while they told me not to push. I thought I was going to die as that was all I wanted to do. When they were finally ready, three contractions full of pushing, and he was out. David got to break the news on the sex of the little guy and cut the cord. Then he was all mine. This is the part where we pretend like I look good in the picture rather than sweaty and unkempt and with fourteen chins. Please note that the little bruiser weighed in at the heavyweight class of 8 lbs 11 oz. I like to think that the many instances of which I ate cookies for breakfast helped get his weight up there and hopefully not so much my weight. Baby boy remains nameless.

Congratulations! I am so happy that the actual labor wasn't a long, drawn out affair and that your cute little guy seems happy and healthy. I hope you're able to get lots of rest and help over the next few weeks. All the best!

Yay! Glad to hear everything went so well and that you are a beautiful family of 5 now. And I HATE talking about informatics when I'm delivering a baby, ugh.
