mr. invincible gets a shiner

Zach thinks he is invincible. He climbs on everything--coffee table, kitchen table, entertainment center, couch, kitchen counters, chairs, beds, windowsills, and the play kitchen furniture. He seems to think that this is his superpower. I spend most of my day getting him off of things. I finally resorted to putting the kitchen chairs in our bedroom and locking the door. It was either that or standing next to him in the kitchen all day long while he climbed all over the chairs and counters. If there is something in his way, he would prefer to go over it rather than around it. Maybe it's just because he's a boy. (I don't remember Sarah being this much of a monkey.) He discovered last night that he isn't invincible with a crash in the bathtub. This kaboom resulted in a cut on his eyelid, some blood, and some crying. We headed out to the ER but decided to consult with a friend who is a nurse. It was a straight cut and seemed to seal shut quickly. Due to this and the location of the cut on his eyelid, we felt like they probably would not stitch it but would instead use a butterfly or a steri-strip. And the plastic surgeon on call was reported to be not so hot. So we headed home without stitches. Now he just gets ointment slathered on frequently to keep it moist and prevent it from opening. And he's going to have a little scar that makes him look like a real tough guy. And he's got a bit of a shiner. Maybe he can tell the other guys that he got in a fist fight with another kid on the playground.

Poor little guy - I think it's a right of passage for childhood. Plan on many more accidents like it to come.

Good decision not to go. Just keep putting the ointment on him.

Poor guy. I think you were right not to bother with the ER..for all the reasons you said.

Plus it'll make him look tough.
