a new first grader in town

first day down and many more to go

Sarah was awfully nervous about her first day of first grade at her new school this morning, but she was a good sport about it. She was also very tired. Still trying to adjust back to the time here in New Jersey, I had to rouse her at 7:30 which still felt like 5:30 to her. She got ready in record time, and we headed out to the bus stop on the corner. I was worried about sending her on the bus the first day, but she wanted to take the bus. We waited, excited and nervous with anticipation, until it finally came. She practically flew up the steps the moment the door opened. We waved as it drove away and then raced home, buckled into the car, and quickly drove over to the school. Shortly after our arrival at the playground, the bus pulled up, and we greeted Sarah as she climbed off the bus. We searched high and low and finally found her class near the building, and she got in line. We waved as she went into the building and then headed home. Hours and hours and hours later, we went back out to the bus stop to greet the big first grader upon her return home. School gets out at 3:30, but her bus didn't drop her off at home until 4:30 due to a number of delays. She was exhausted and starving, but she loved being a first grader.
