because it snowed...

Because a nor'easter blew through here and it snowed, we had:
  • two very happy kids who played for hours in the snow two days in a row before it all melted to sludge
  • a little boy who fell in love with his warm, fuzzy green coat that he despised when I brought it home from the store
  • a mom who was happy that their snow gear from last year still fit
  • a very friendly snowman in our front yard who melted quickly
  • several snowball fights
  • lots of hot chocolate with marshmallows
  • downed trees, tree branches, and power lines all over the place; fortunately, our power never went out
  • a nerve-wracking afternoon, evening, and night of listening to tree branches come crashing down all along our street
  • a huge tree branch come crashing down in our front yard narrowly missing our power line which took several hours to cut the minor branches off of and four people to move the main branch to the street
  • no church on Sunday
  • snow on the ground for trick-or-treating on Halloween
  • record snowfall for October in New Jersey
  • four days out of school due to the downed tree branches and power lines causing power outages and unsafe travel conditions
  • a happy grandma who got to spend time with the grandkids who didn't have to go to school
  • unexpected house guests for three nights while their power was out; we called them our refugees
  • thirteen people for Sunday dinner
  • lots of shoveling to do since the snowblower was stuck in the shed
  • glove monsters who were constantly hungry for snow
  • a whole bunch of snow angels in the front yard
  • a chance to watch the landscape crews bring big machinery in to shred the downed tree branches into mulch
