25 things to remember about 4-year-old zach

  1. He loves to sleep on the floor. And does regularly. As in four nights out of seven. He wants his pillows and blankets and animals and everything set up on the floor next to his bed. And I oblige. I also bought a rug to make it slightly more comfortable than the hardwood. He calls it his carpet.
  2. He has recently decided to become Little Mr. Independent. He wants to do everything himself. These behaviors are usually accompanied by the proclamation, "I did it all by myself." On occasion, I can convince him that Teamwork is really the best option. That eliminates lots of spills.
  3. He's crazy about riding the bus.
  4. Chocolate milk is a new favorite. With a straw.
  5. He recently rediscovered his love of all things train and is spending more time with Thomas and assorted friends.
  6. Lego Star Wars is his current obsession. He has books and lego catalog magazines and some actual legos that he is constantly playing with or looking through. Unfortunately, four-year-olds and legos are not always a good combination.
  7. He is definitely a night owl just like his father and would never go to sleep if not forced to every single night.
  8. He likes to sleep with a kitty puppet. He slips it on his hand and either sleeps on the puppet on his hand or uses it to pet his face. It's adorable.
  9. Definitely a shower man
  10. Does not like breakfast when he first wakes up although he enjoys many breakfast foods. He prefers to wait for several hours before eating in the morning.
  11. Any time that he feels slighted in the least he is certain to let you know that you hurt his shirt or his pants or his arm or his self.
  12. Loves to be included with the big kids.
  13. He likes to be called Zach or Zachie only. Any other nicknames and he protests adamantly that it is not his name. David tried to convince him the other day that his name is Zachary David (which it is) and he was furious that his name was Zach only.
  14. Is crazy about riding the bus. He hops right on happy as a clam.
  15. He finally sings during primary. Finally. After almost a year in Sunbeams. Don't let on that you know about this, however, as that will embarrass him and cause him to stop singing in primary.
  16. He can often be found humming the theme song to Star Wars. Sometimes in places such as sacrament meeting to the amusement of all who sit around us.
  17. Operating the microwave is one of the highlights of his life.
  18. He loves to help with cooking. Making waffles and pie (German pancakes) are his specialty although he can be quite the mean stirrer as well.
  19. Just recently he discovered burping. And finds it absolutely hysterical. He spends significant portions of his day involved with manufacturing fake burps.
  20. If it has sugar, he likes it. In fact, the more sugar it contains, the more he likes it. If it doesn't have sugar, he probably won't eat it.
  21. He is fascinated by money and by how much things cost. He is constantly assigning arbitrary amounts to items that he desires and then proclaiming whether or not we have enough money for it and should therefore get it or not.
  22. Could eat cheese and crackers for every meal, every day. He prefers rectangle cheese with rectangle crackers (Club crackers) although occasionally he surprises me and requests square cheese with circle crackers (Ritz).
  23. Looks forward to making shakes with daddy and especially toward consuming the shakes made with the daddy. His duties involve the dumping and the pushing of the buttons.
  24. Must have someone sleep by him at bedtime every single night without fail. Usually only mommy will do.
  25. Simply cannot seem to understand the concept of marriage. He always thinks that the married people are brother and sister.
