it's my day!

Several times leading up to and even on the big birthday, Sarah proclaimed, "It's my day!" Meaning, apparently, that since it was her birthday, she could do whatever she wanted and have whatever she wanted as well. She was quite adamant about this. Did she get it? Mostly. I gave in on some things, but on other things, I held firm. She didn't ask for balloons, but I knew she would love them. She did. She didn't ask for a birthday crown, but I made one. She loved it. She was desperate for Zhu Zhu Pets, and fortunately, the grandparents were kind enough to give in and get two (although the store didn't have the one she was pining for) along with a home for them. I even caved the morning of her birthday when I found her precious pink Jilly Zhu Zhu pet and got it for her. Can you tell she was thrilled beyond measure? She promptly jumped off the couch and attacked me with a hug. I nearly dropped the camera and got an awesome smear of Sarah's dress picture to prove it. She wanted a birthday cake (white cake with white frosting) to take to school. I tried (oh, how I tried) to talk her out of it. She reminded me, however, that it was her day, so a white cake with white frosting it was. We bought the cake mixes together, baked it together, and I frosted it. She wanted an assortment of her random toys all over the top, but I informed her that her day didn't quite go that far. She wanted candles, and I assured her that plan likely would not fly at the school. (In fact, I was astounded that they allowed us to make our own cake.) We compromised, and she picked the sprinkles (pink and red hearts, of course). She was so excited to share it with her friends. According to her teacher, everyone loved it and wanted more. Who knew the store brand cake and frosting would be so tasty? Or, perhaps, who knew that I was such an awesome cook? When it's your day, you do actually get candles on the cake at home. You even get to lick the bottoms off. According to Sarah, the best part of her birthday was everything.

Shoot I was going to get some of those zhu zhu things but I thought they were too stupid for her to like. Not sure if she will enjoy our selection quite as much.

Cute crown! And the zhu zhu pets aren't too bad. Especially in a few weeks when they just sit silently forgotten in their room.
