We went to the Bronx Zoo yesterday, and oh my, it was wonderful! I've been meaning to go for weeks but either the weather was bad or we were too busy or any number of other things prevented us. The place is fantastic! We have a WCS membership which means we get to do everything for free--the Congo Gorilla Forest, Children's Zoo, Butterfly Garden, Monorail, Bug Carousel, Skyfari, and Zoo Shuttle. That membership is worth every penny we paid for it and then some. It was a bit overcast which made it just pleasant to be wandering around to see the animals. And animals we did see. I couldn't believe how many animals they have and how wonderful the exhibits are. I've been to both the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Omaha Zoo which are great, but it has been so long that I scarcely remember them. My only comparison is the Hogle Zoo which simply cannot call itself a zoo in comparison. We saw probably a dozen chimpanzees who were playing, chasing each other, exploring, climbing around, and relaxing all while the father watched over them. We saw the tigers up close and personal. We watched the lions relax and then fight a bit complete with roaring. The peacocks didn't appreciate this one little bit and voiced their opinions all about it. We saw peacocks everywhere. We saw elephants and rhinos and bears and a polar bear and an okapi (who even knew there was such a thing? Not me!). The giraffes looked so happy wandering amongst the trees. And we saw the butterfly garden with butterflies flying all around us. The pictures do not even do them justice. I think we'll be going back once a week for the rest of the summer.

What great picture taking weather; your greens are so green. I love the shot of the peacock, that really looks like an amazing zoo.
And you did not even wait until Z week to do it!
Okay, your pictures convinced us; we'll come join you for one of those weekends. It's been years since Bryn has been to a zoo (not counting Logan's own exciting Willow Park).
Sounds like a fabulous zoo -- maybe we'll add it to our list of stuff to do in NYC.
