trains on the brains

Here at our house it is all trains all the time. Wherever and whenever we see them, we must stop and watch them. Zach can spot a train or some tracks in anything. This evening he determined that the comb binding of a book was a perfect track. Due to this train sensitivity, I am always on the lookout for any train-related activity. We headed up to the New York Botanical Garden today for our second viewing of the holiday train show this season (went earlier in December while my parents were visiting) and saw Thomas the Tank Engine while we were there. Zach was a little leery of Sir Topham Hatt but simply could not wait in the line to see Thomas. It didn't help that it was naptime. After what seemed like forever, but was really only about 30 minutes, we got our chance with Thomas. Zach loved it. Even Sarah seemed excited though I doubt she'll admit it. Then we ventured into the crowded train show where Zach proceeded to run around, slipping easily between people in the crowd, while we desperately tried to both keep up with him and keep him in sight, excited beyond belief by all the trains flying along their tracks. When we went earlier in December, it was much less crowded, and Zach ran from exhibit to exhibit yelling, "It's coming, it's coming," and staring in amazement as the trains sped by. He crouched and watched and waited and watched and loved every second of it. Both times we have had to drag him out screaming. If we go again, I might just leave him there.
