As this is a journal of sorts for me as well as a collection of memories for the kids as well as a blog to share our lives with all of you, I thought it might be fun to make a record of an average day in the life of our very own three-year-old girl. As mundane as it might seem, it is our days--especially the run-of-the-mill kind--that add up to our life. Not every day is exciting around here; some days are just plain jane. Someday I want Sarah to see just what life was like for her when she was three. Here it is--a day in Sarah's shoes:

She's been getting up routinely around 9:00 am which is fantastic. Zach usually gets up earlier, so Sarah joins Zach and I on my bed when she gets up. We play for a bit until breakfast time. We had German pancakes with raspberries for breakfast which is her favorite. She asks for them nearly every morning.

After breakfast it is bath time. I sent her to get ready for her bath and went down to assist after cleaning up breakfast to find her standing naked on the toilet blowing bubbles (not pictured). Only Sarah! If it hadn't been so funny, I probably would have been mad. After her bath, she usually curls up in the fetal position wrapped in her towel and whines that she is cold. After some convincing, she finally gets dressed.

All ready for the day in a shirt she picked out at the store.

Time for a little playing in the play room. Usually she only plays independently for a little while, but on this particular day, she played for a long time. Lucky me!
When you get up at 9:00, lunch comes quickly. The child has been very picky lately, but since she liked what we had for dinner the night before, she got leftovers for lunch--soup and cornbread muffins with honey.

Five minutes after lunch (You may think I'm kidding here, but I'm not.) she is looking in the fridge for something to eat because she is hungry. This picture could be repeated several times throughout the remainder of the day as I find her looking in the fridge for something to eat every time I turn around.

A little time spent playing with Zach. The kid loves her to pieces--even when she is laying on top of him as is pictured here.

A little time playing with princess dolls.

A little time watching a movie. This may be my proudest parenting day ever as she only watched one movie (The Little Mermaid) all day long, and we didn't even turn the tv on until 2:45. I think this might be a record for us!

A little time playing on the computer. Her current game of choice is nickjr.com which drives me bonkers. She really likes the Dora and Diego games as well as WonderPets. This was another record day with only 30 minutes of computer time.

A little time spent working on letter of the week activities. Since it is M week, we have been playing lots of memory and matching games. She is awesome at memory.

A little bit of dinner. She had nuggets because Daddy wasn't home yet, and I didn't feel like fighting the battle of making her eat what we were eating.

A little time hanging out and playing with Daddy and Zach.

At 8:30 it is time for jammies, brushing teeth, scriptures, reading books, and bed. She is fascinated with mythology, so we have been reading lots of stories from a mythology book. She especially likes Medusa, Pegasus, and Theseus and the Minotaur in the Labyrinth. There are days when this is my very favorite time of the day.

Good night! Sleep tight!

This day was a little bit unusual in that we stayed home all day. We usually try to go out at least once a day if even just for a short walk. Also unusual about today was that she did not don her princess dress at any point. Although she does not wear it as frequently as she used to, she still wears it several times each week. She took two tours today in time-out (for hitting me and calling me a made-up name) which I neglected to take photos of.

What a good idea! I'm so inclined to blog about the unusual things, that our kids are going to read it later and get a skewed vision of their childhood.
p.s. I would eat german pankcakes with raspberries everyday if I could, too.
You do have the best ideas Alicia!!! I loved that post. I want to do that too - maybe I will one day. But I must admit, we usually watch way more than 1 movie/TV hour a day! We're PBS junkies at our house. I don't feel that guilty b/c it's PBS though. Also, it is nice to know someone else's kid wakes up at 9:00. For some weird reason, (maybe it's jealousy,) I always get the feeling people think I'm insane for that. But I don't mind, b/c I'm not exactly a morning person! You are the cutest! And so are your kids! :)
I love this idea! Although I'm not a blogger myself, I have passed the idea along to my other blogger friends.
You and that brain of yours are amazing!
