reasons why

So Sarah told me last week, "I wish Sister Jones (name changed to protect the innocent sister in my ward here) was my mom because she is nicer than you." I almost laughed out loud but somehow managed to avoid doing this. Then I nearly told her to head on over to Sister Jones' house and come back when she decided I was not such a bad mom after all and that Sister Jones would probably have more rules and say no more frequently than she thinks. Fortunately, I have high self-esteem, and this did not particularly bother me. I think some of these may be the reasons why:
  • I make her take a bath.
  • Sometimes I say no, and sometimes I say NOOOOO!!!!!!!!
  • I make her go to bed.
  • I don't let her eat cookies for breakfast.
  • I make her walk all the way to and from the store and don't even let her stop and rest when we are only two blocks from our building.
  • Sometimes I refuse to let her watch movies when she wants to.
  • I don't give her candy whenever she wants it.
  • I don't let her take things from my fridge to put into her pretend fridge in her kitchen or allow her to open any of the dry good packages she has packed into her kitchen. I only had to tell her about 10 times before she complied. I probably only yelled one or two times of the 10.
  • Just this morning I told her she couldn't pack her bag with cookies and haul them all over the house for the next week and a half (thus causing them to be jumbled into a bunch of crumbs and chocolate no longer good for eating, making a giant mess everywhere she spilled them, and inviting all sorts of critters into our apartment to eat them).
  • I don't buy her everything she asks for at the store.
  • I don't let her wear her princess dresses outside of the apartment.
When I look at it like this, I have reconsidered--maybe I am a bad mom.

Maybe someday she'll dig deep in her heart and decide to forgive you for being so horrible. ;)
