we're off to trick-or-treat

For months I've been scheming for Sarah to be Dorothy for Halloween. I simply didn't think I could take another princess costume. I bought her the sparkly red shoes at Target ages ago. Then we checked out the Wizard of Oz at the library and watched it--over and over again. She finally consented as she thought that Dorothy was in fact a princess. My Aunt Paula who lives in Omaha was kind enough to offer to make a Dorothy dress when she visited us a while back. That got Sarah really excited for Halloween. Then we came up with a plan. Sarah would be Dorothy. I would of course be the Wicked Witch of the West and bought myself a hat. Zach would be the Cowardly Lion. Daddy would be the Tin Man. You can see how well that worked out. He is wearing a gray (and black) coat. My mom would be the Scarecrow. The costumes were awesome. Well, the kids had great costumes, anyway. We tricked and treated up and down our old street, 181st, in Manhattan. Everyone humored me as I thought it was buckets of fun last year. Nearly everyone we saw thought the kids were adorable. Then we tricked and treated in our apartment building. If you look closely, you can see Zach inside the lion hood (perhaps the cutest lion hood every made). Sarah was disappointed when I picked her up from school as there wasn't a costume contest. She knew for sure that she would have won if there had been. I'm already plotting and scheming for next year. The possibilities are so exciting--Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and Jill, Hansel and Gretel...I just have to convince Sarah.

That lion costume is about the best thing I've ever seen.

And I love the Dorothy dress.

I don't think I've ever done a team-theme halloween. Maybe next year...

I think we have enough people to be the A-team. Eric might have to fill in as Mr. T.

That's so cute, Zach was a good little sport. But C'mon Dave! Shouldn't you have been the wizard or something! JK

Looks like Halloween was a success! I think Dave enjoys dressing up as much as Mark does...
