can you guess where we went?

Our plans for the week included a trip to the Statue of Liberty on Friday. Since our car isn't big enough for everyone who was going, we had to take the ferry from the Manhattan side which is significantly more crowded than the New Jersey side. Our visit to the ferry station in Battery Park also coincided with the ticker tape parade to celebrate the Yankees' win of the World Series which conveniently started at Battery Park. David said we should go since we were already planning on being in the area. I told him I was a little concerned about the crowds. He said he didn't think many people would go. He thought it would be too cold and that people would have to work. So we decided to check it out. With two million other people. We hopped on the 1 train and headed downtown. By the time we hid midtown the train was packed. I started to get a little nervous about taking on this particular adventure. I was a lot nervous when we got further downtown and more people kept getting on the train. Finally people started getting off about three stops before our stop (the end of the line). It was crowded, and we didn't see much. But it was pretty exciting. Even from a distance we could see the stuff flying in the air and hear the music and the crowds. Had I been alone I would certainly have pushed my way to the front--or as close as I could get. It was just too risky with two kids and three non-New Yorkers. We enjoyed the ticker tape from afar after pushing through the crowds for a block or two. We did see the floats all lined up and buses full of crazy fans. We also viewed the aftermath with street sweepers sweeping away the debris and cherry pickers pulling the mess out of the trees after our day out at Liberty Island on our way back home.
