liberty island

Going to the Statue of Liberty has been on my list of things to do for ages, but I haven't been able to talk anyone into going there until today. It was a chilly but sunny day, so we headed to Battery Park to get on the ferry. I had heard awful things about security and waiting in lines and was pleased to find that it wasn't that bad. We waited for a little while, but the line seemed to move quickly. I wasn't thrilled, however, to find that at security I had to load all of our stuff into the trays, take off my coat, take off Zach's coat, and fold up the stroller. I guess that's life. The ferry was a nice enclosed ride which I was grateful for as it is so much colder out on the water. I really liked Liberty Island. It wasn't terribly crowded, and the kids were able to wander around and explore. Zach, of course, found some rocks to throw into the water. Sarah, of course, chased the poor seagulls and pigeons. The view was beautiful. I think someday I'll try to go back and get a Monument Pass or a Crown Pass to get inside the statue.
