Quite possibly every ornament is broken or bent
The stockings weren't hung by the chimney with care
We're thinking they may have to hang on a chair
The children aren't snuggled all snug in their bed
They're driving the mother quite out of her head
The nativity has been opened and put out for play
But it seems that Baby Jesus within it won't stay
When in the stable there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the kitchen to see what was the matter
Across the apartment I walked the ten feet
And, oh boy, was I in for a treat!
The tiny Baby Jesus had been replaced by who?
Thomas the Tank Engine with a loud choo choo!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But more ornaments thrown on the floor with Christmas cheer!
The presents are all purchased and finally here
Except what should I get for my husband dear?
More rapid than eagles Sarah scouted them out
That girl has a candy and present sniffing snout
Now grandmas! Now grandpas!
Now uncles and aunts!
On cousins! On neighbors!
On old and new friends!
Don't look in your mailbox!
Please check your e-mail!
The Christmas cards have finally been sent!
Hooray! Hooray!
After wrapping and wrapping and wrapping some more
The presents are ready and will likely cover the floor
So here to our apartment the boxes they flew
From the mailman, the UPS guy, and FedEx, too
And then, after a few weeks, the place filled to the roof,
With boxes that have been driving me crazy and will be recycled with a poof
As Christmas time neared, and the tasks multiplied
We kept going and going and several times sighed
The calendars were completed early and sent on their way
The ward Christmas party, you're in charge, by the way!
A gingerbread house, Christmas cards, and breakfast
Plus the Primary nativity for the Christmas party are a must
The kids-how they nativitied!
The houses, how candied!
The cards were covered with stickers indeed!
Next up the Relief Society gifts all tied with a bow,
Handed out to the sisters, oh, we were not slow
Surprise! we need 175 bishopric Christmas letters today,
So I headed with stamps, envelopes, and copies into the fray
Stuffing, and stamping, and addressing envelopes too
Off I went to the post office with my stack to deal with that crew
Too lazy were we to visit Macy's to see the jolly old elf
I decided to put that task until next year on the shelf
Frosting and sprinkles and sugar cookies we will not do
Instead, can I watch a Christmas movie with you?
Please don't tell Sarah we skipped them or she'll be upset
Remind her instead that our Christmas craft quota has been more than met.
Our jammies are ready, our slippers, and books
Our new ornaments are ready for their hooks
I've cut and I've sewn a few little homemade things
And just wait until you see how much stuff Santa brings
And you may hear me exclaim as we draw near to this night,
"Hey, kids, please please please sleep in, all right?!"
