a very thomas christmas

Zach was at the perfect age to really enjoy Christmas this year and to make it delightful for everyone around him. He woke up at 6:00 and came into the front room just as he does every morning. I was dozing on the couch and ready to watch his reaction. He walked over to the Christmas tree with the array of presents and said, "Huuuuuhhhhhh?" Then he spotted the tool bench and got to work. This entertained him until Sarah woke up 45 minutes later.
The opening of every present involved significant amounts of grunting, grimacing, and piles of tiny ripped pieces of wrapping paper.
Once unwrapped, every present had to be opened right away. He yelled, "Obreg," (his bizarre word for open-I think maybe a combination of open and the Spanish equivalent abrir) over and over again until someone helped out.
Then he would yell out, "Thank you," and run off to his room to play with it. Until Sarah rounded him up to open more presents. And more presents. And more presents. There was a period where I considered putting some of them away for another day, but I caved and let him have them all.
Of course, the amount of Thomas the Tank Engine merchandise was significant. It's possible that six trains was a bit over the top. It was imperative that we build a bigger and better track right away to incorporate his new features. Then the trains got busy. For the better part of the day.
He may not resurface before the New Year.
