stellar parenting moment

So David always complains about the number of catalogs I receive in the mail--you know, saving trees and all that in addition to my consumer problem of buying too much. Oriental Trading Company is one of the worst culprits of sending loads of catalogs although I suppose it's my own fault for requesting them. Well, problem solved! I now let Sarah cut them up. This is good for practicing her scissor skills although not so good for the consumer genes I passed down to her (nature or nurture, here, I wonder?) as she then proceeds to show me little pictures of everything she wants from the catalog. When she is done, I let Zach play with them. He chews on them and mangles them to his heart's content. Basically, this provides hours (okay maybe 15-20 minutes in reality) of entertainment. Sarah is happy. Zach is happy. I am happy. Then we recycle them. Everyone is happy.

I've heard it said by an unnamed family member that he is unfit for having children. He then usually cites the instance where he allowed a baby nephew to play with the newspapers creating a huge mess of both baby and newspapers. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say perhaps he was, in fact, a parenting genius way ahead of his time. I mean I'm letting my baby play with papers in a like manner, and my parenting could never be called into question...

I unknowingly let him eat the newspaper. There is a big difference in letting them play with paper and letting them eat the paper. Also, it is interesting to me that the first grandkid could play in the newspaper and it was cute. None of the subsequent kids are afforded such luxury.

Ok, I just wrote a comment to post, but for some reason it decided not to. So here we are again, if it posts twice it's because it's me. Anywho, I stumbled across the vawdrey page, saw some cute auburn-haired children and came to the conclusion that it really is the dave and alicia I used to know. So, from an old high school chum--how are ya! What a cute family and what a fun adventure to live in NY. Nice seeing ya!

I think everyone forgot to mention the part where the nephew is returned to his parents after a lovely evening meal of newspaper and then proceeds to BARF newspaper all night!!!!
