t is for train

We headed over to the New York Transit Museum to enjoy trains, trolleys, and other forms of New York transportation. Sarah thoroughly enjoyed it. The museum itself is in a decommissioned subway station in Brooklyn. It was full of old subway memorabilia most of which you could touch or try on for size complete with a number of old-fashioned subway cars on the tracks. It was also full of pictures and information and exhibits (you know, typical museum stuff) for people who like that (which we, meaning Sarah, don't). Sarah met some little friends with whom she enjoyed running up and down the platform and in and out of the subway cars. She also enjoyed working at the ticket booth pretending to sell metrocards and going through several models of turnstiles both old and new. She was enthralled with the buses (They had two practically full-size that you could climb all over in and drive.) and simply could not get enough of driving them, filling them up with gas, and sitting in the seats. She was kind enough to give Zach and I a lift to Fort Tryon Park in her bus (the M4). She even showed me on her map the route we would be taking. She did say once that she wanted to drive a bus. Perhaps she will take after her uncle. It turns out Thursday at 1:00 is storytime, so we lucked out and got to hear some great stories in the subway cars and played an awesome Bingo game. We also got some super subway cars and boxes folded out of cardboard. Since I'm kind of a sucker, we stopped in the gift shop (why, oh why, must I love gift shops so much?) and picked up an A train. I'm thinking at some point we'll have to become Thomas fans and will hook the A train on to remember our days in NYC.

That hat is way too cute on Sarah. Sounds like a fun day.
