day 7: gingerbread house

Today was gingerbread house day. Sarah could not wait. Seriously. We started building somewhere around 8:00 am. It may have even been earlier. She's been begging for days. And when I finally consented, she had that box opened and unpacked in ten seconds flat. Maybe less. I, however, was not quite ready. Let's be honest. Was I ever really going to be ready to get into gingerbread house making? Probably not. We had to cement together the walls. Then wait an hour. Then the roof. Then wait between two and three hours. I thought the waiting might actually kill her. Then we had to wait all through church and dinner before we got to the good part--the candy! She, of course, went crazy with the candy and made a gingerbread house that any gingerbread man would be proud to call home. She especially loved the sugar sprinkle snow. And the frosting--which she ate out of the bag until her father finally made her stop. I loved having Zach climb all over me and whine to get in on the action until I hauled him off to the crib. Then I loved when he fell asleep so we could finish.

I do too. For next December I want that picture blown up as the entire calender month.
