so this is christmas--sarah style

Sarah was, of course, giddy with excitement about Christmas. She left cookies for Santa and was thrilled to see that he left her a thank-you note for them. She couldn't wait to get at the presents--at 7:45. She helped Zach up as well. Then she couldn't get the presents open fast enough. She appointed herself present fetch girl and proceeded to hand presents to the person they belonged to while also helping herself to as many presents labeled Sarah as possible. It went something like this. Grab present with name on it. Rip present open. Glance at what is inside. Put it down in a pile. Grab next present with name on it. Rip it open. Quick glance at contents. Put it aside. Continue until there are no more presents labeled Sarah. Turn to mom and say, "How come Zach got more presents than me?" (It was totally fair. Cross my heart.) There were a few presents that caught her eye--TicTacs (seriously!? Next year that may be all she gets.), a Cinderella snowglobe that she has been begging for, and a pop-up princess castle book. This book, by the way, saved Christmas. I bought it several weeks ago at the Borders down the street while I was just browsing. I wasn't planning on giving it to her for Christmas. (Here's my dirty little secret: I sometimes buy things for my kids when there is no reason to. Usually it is just because they are on sale or I think they might like them. Then I keep them squirreled away until I need a little gift or reward of some sort for them. You never know when you are going to need one to save your sanity. I have a little stash. This book was in that stash.) Then about three days ago she decides she wants a princess castle for Christmas. In all fairness, I suppose she told Santa about it a few weeks ago, and just told me a few days ago. I didn't think anything of it, but she kept talking about wanting a castle. Ummmm, problem. I haven't seen any in stores around here. I am not paying one-day shipping. Enter pop-up princess castle book. Problem solved for the bargain price of $5.99. Happy Sarah on Christmas day!
