an apple a day

We trekked up to Rockland County, New York today to go apple picking. It's the thing to do in the fall for entertainment. And apples. Sarah picked and picked and picked. And ran around shouting about how many apples there were in each tree. Daddy lifted her and lifted her and lifted her so she could pick the apples up high. Zach ran around and enjoyed the freedom. He also picked a few apples from the trees and hundreds from the ground. None of his apples made it into the bag, however. He seemed to think they were balls and commenced throwing them all over the orchard. Sometimes he would change things up a little by taking a bite before throwing the apple. He also spent significant amounts of time yelling, "Apple" and "Ball!" We also tried a few pumpkins on for size. Zach enjoyed sitting on them while Sarah preferred carrying them around. When Zach saw the tractor, he begged for a ride. Once he got on, however, he wanted right back off. Sarah also had to give the tractor a spin. Two huge bags of apples snuck their way home with us in the car, but the pumpkins stayed behind. We'll wait and get those a little closer to Halloween.

I spy a smile on Sarah. It was a success from beginning to end.
