sarah & mary on broadway

With my aunt and cousins in town for the weekend, we headed into the city to see Mary Poppins on Broadway, and Sarah got to come along. We've been reading the book in preparation to see the play, and although we hadn't quite finished the book, it was the night of the play. Sarah wasn't quite sure she wanted to go, but she had a great time. When we told her it was girls night out, she was so excited to get out on the town with the girls. She filled her purse up with treasures and was ready to hit the town. She also wondered when she could go out with dad for boys night out. Unfortunately, we told her she would probably not be involved in a boys night out as she is not a boy and that they were currently enjoying a boys night in. It turns out that when you're just a wee young thing, you get to sit on a booster seat in the theatre. She especially enjoyed seeing Mary Poppins fly with her umbrella, a giant umbrella with lots of lights, dancing statues, a man dance up the walls and along the ceiling, and all the dancing and singing. On more than one occasion, she yelled out, "Mom, how are they doing that?" She couldn't believe Mary Poppins could fly. Since the play started at 8:00 pm, the little darling got a bit tired but was perked back up every few minutes with all the theatrics of the play. She dozed off on the subway and again on the bus (and we carried her home) but was amazed upon our arrival home to see that she had stayed awake until 12:00 midnight. As this (staying up until 12:00) has been a dream of hers for several months, it turned out to be a night of magic and a dream come true.
