Sarah loves toast these days. She has at least one piece per day. The best part is that she makes her own. Hooray! Some independent behaviors! This morning I asked her what she wanted for breakfast. She replied that she was going to make daddy and I breakfast. I was all for that, so I let her. I figure I have been making her breakfast for four and a half years, and it's high time she start picking up some of the chores around here--starting with breakfast! Here's her special recipe for toast:
- Step 1: climb up on the counter.
- Step 2: open the bread and put two slices in the toaster. (Make sure to leave the bread open and out. If at all possible, lose the twistie for the bread sack.)
- Step 3: yell for mom to get the butter out of the fridge since you forgot before climbing up on the counter and don't want to get back down.
- Step 4: wave your hand over the top of the toaster to feel the heat and say, "It's getting hotter, it's getting hotter, it's getting hotter," until it pops up, surprising you and nearly making you fall off the counter.
- Step 5: yell for mom to get a butter knife.
- Step 6: spread about a cube of butter on the toast. (Don't worry; your mom won't let you get away with it but will scrape most of it off until it is a reasonable amount.)
- Step 7: squeeze as much honey onto your toast as your mother will allow
- Step 8: eat it up and then make another one.
