I got brave and drove to the Bronx Zoo today to meet some friends. This may very well have been the most nail-biting eight miles I have ever driven in my life. It was my first time driving across the George Washington Bridge. And the Cross Bronx Expressway. And in New York at all for that matter. Before leaving, I consulted my friend Google maps for a route. Then I checked the zoo's website for directions from New Jersey. I also asked my friend Garmin (in the car) for his input. As it turns out, they all had different advice. This led to a problem that I encountered while on the road--which friend to listen to!?! Yikes! I finally stuck with the zoo's directions. I figured they probably had the easiest route and had guided many people there over the years. While their directions turned out to be great, my friend, Garmin, kept yacking in my ear the whole way there...recalculating...recalculating...recalculating. I was too busy driving to turn him off. I'm not sure we can be friends again for a few days until I really need him again. There was a lot of that lovely NYC honking, although only two horn bursts were directed specifically at me. Despite several requests to Sarah to just sit quietly in the back, she was chattering my ear off. By the time we got to the zoo, I was more than happy to pay the $12 to just park the car and get out. After a lovely time visiting with friends, riding the shuttle and skyfari and carousel, and checking out the animals, we headed home in lots of traffic. Our 20 minute drive to the zoo turned into a 50 minute drive home. Fortunately, all roads lead to the George Washington Bridge around here, and getting home, though long, was much less stressful.

This blog had me laughing. I can see it in my mind! The Garmin has become my trusted friend. He has only let me down once-not bad since I use it all the time.
