Sarah has attended six days of school in the past three weeks. It started with two snow days and an early out day due to parent teacher conferences the first week. The whole week of President's Day was no school for Winter Break. Taking an entire week off of school in the middle of the winter is craziness as it is freezing outside and there is nothing to do. This week really topped things off with another day and a half of snow days. We are ready to be done. By that, I suppose I mostly mean I am ready to be done. The kids don't seem to mind the snow, but I am ready for warmer weather. I usually try to avoid much snow time as I don't like being cold or wet or any of that snow-related stuff. I gave in today, however, and we spent a lovely afternoon relishing all sorts of snowy, icy, cold activities. And it was fun. I must say that my idea of taking the sand pails and shovels outside was an ingenious plan. Zach could have shoveled that snow for hours. And his hands stayed warm. We built snow castles, shoveled snow, threw snowballs, climbed through snow tunnels that someone had made, added on to several snowmen others had built, and built Zach a snow seat. He loved it until his little fanny got wet. And he went through two pairs of pants. Next year might be the year that I buy my kids actual snow gear. Then Sarah went ice skating. It turns out it was much harder than she anticipated, and she is not yet quite ready for the Olympics. It is not apparent from the picture, but she is sporting four layers on the bottom half (tights, stretch pants, jeans, and a skirt) and three layers on the top half (shirt, second shirt, and coat). And she does this every day. It's the latest clothing craze--put on as much as you possibly can. While it was a nice day, we're ready to move on and be warm and go outside in shorts and t-shirts and blow bubbles and wear sandals and be warm and wash our coats and store them away and use those shovels and pails in the sandboxes for which they were intended.
