livin in the heights

We live in an area of Manhattan called Washington Heights, or even more specifically, Hudson Heights. Although it is perfectly safe, it has a bit of a reputation from the past as "the heights." Well, a couple of nights ago, I was lying on the bed reading while waiting for the baby to fall asleep on the bed next to me. Outside I could hear someone yelling, "Put your hands up, put your hands up!" Of course, I ran over to the window to see what was happening! Who wouldn't? It didn't look like anything was happening, but I continued to watch for a few minutes and finally discovered a man pushing another man up against the building across the street while talking on a cell phone. He looked like a regular old guy, but I think he may have been a plain clothes police officer or something. A few minutes later, seven police cars came roaring up completely blocking the street. They all jumped out and converged on the scene and shortly thereafter took the bad guy away. It was all very exciting--from the safety of my bedroom window, of course.
