You would think by the title of this post that I would be making reference to the almost 3-month-old, but this is not the case. Sarah is currently the cause of my lack of sleep. Zach is sleeping about 8 hours per night which is glorious. Sarah, however, is making me crazy by waking up at all hours of the night. Last night it was 12:00 and 6:00 am. The night before that it was 5:00 am. The night before that I don't even remember (too tired-memory is going). One night last week when I woke up to feed the baby about 5:00 am I found her sacked out near my feet on our bed. Apparently, I was too tired to be roused when she came in. One time I asked her why she was awake, and she said she just woke up because she needed a drink of water. Usually when she wakes up she turns the light on in her room. This is a problem as Zach is asleep in there as well and may be awakened by the sudden bright light shining down on him. I know it wakes me up from across the hall. Her other favorite thing to do when she wakes up in the middle of the night is to come and kneel down by the side of the bed and watch me until I wake up. It totally freaks me out! There I am sleeping soundly and then suddenly alert and weirded out that she is staring at me. Occasionally, I try for a nap during the day. This is, of course, wishful thinking as Sarah determines the minute that I lay down that she needs immediate assistance (read that as attention) with something that she can do independently or Zach wakes up the moment I doze off. I'm looking forward to our visit to Utah as I think I may be able to coax a grandma or two into tending while I take a much needed nap or two.

Staring at a sleeping parent must be a kid thing -- I know I did it to my mom and my kids do it to me! Totally freaks me out when I wake up!
We've had a VERY similar experience with Ben. It's weird, because he always used to the best sleeper. But since Spencer's been born, he's definitely had his share of bad sleeping phases. Keep in mind that it's just that - a phase, however long it may be. :( I know that's not comforting when you're in dire need of the good stuff though, (sleep of course.) Also, so jealous you get to go home for Christmas. Too bad we can't meet up!
