back in action

I went to the orthopedic surgeon again yesterday. This was a new doctor as my insurance said they wouldn't cover the other one anymore as an in-network provider. Call me crazy not to want to pay out of pocket or cover 20% to see an out-of-network provider. People here seem to think it is no big deal to pay out of pocket. I say if I have insurance I might as well use it. I liked this guy better, and he's closer to me with a much nicer office staff.

After yet another x-ray, he said that the fracture is stable and healed and that I should use it, use it, use it! Hallelujah! So, I'm back in action. It's incredible how much easier everything is with two hands (including, drum roll please, putting my hair in a ponytail). I'm thinking I may even get adventurous sometime this week and pull out the old blow dryer. I can almost function like a normal person. After four and a half weeks of having to consciously think about not using my right arm, I now find that I have to consciously think about using it. Weird! It's still a little bit stiff, and my range of motion is not yet 100%. I have to continue seeing an occupational therapist (if only I could see my favorite ot, Kelly, back at good old Terra Linda) for probably six weeks of intensive range of motion work, but everything looks good. What a relief!
